Goodreads Synopsis
“Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants.
Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night.
He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me–his little sister’s best friend.
I’m the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I’m smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn’t see that girl.
It’d be easier to forget him if he wasn’t my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn’t his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I’ve crushed on him since the day we met, but he’s made it perfectly clear where we stand. Just friends.
I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I’m left dreaming of what if.
He has girl issues, and I’ve got a crush I can’t deny.
We’re friends, but I want more.
One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.
A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won’t be a pawn in his game, but I’ll play by his rules if it will show him I’m the one worth breaking them for.
Checkmate, Prince Charming. “
My Review
The Checkmate Duet Series by Kennedy Fox continues!! I was so excited to read Drew and Courtney’s story and I was not disapointed.
Courtney Bishop is a southern girl at heart, who can hold her own along side any man, bakes a mean batch of blueberry muffins, and is in love with her best friends brother.
” When life throws you lemons, squeeze them into a margarita and make muffins. At least that’s what I do.”
Drew Fisher is a cop with a body of sin and a heart of gold who gave his heart to the wrong girl. When he’s not out keeping the city safe he’s either working out or playing video games.
” “Muffins don’t create abs,” I tease, pulling my shirt up and flashing her my stomach”
This is Reckless takes places two years after the first duet. Drew and Courtney now live together and have gotten as close as friends can be. Court secretly lusts after Drew while he is with his on/off again horrible girlfriend Mia.
After a break up and a few dirty dreams, thier fates finally collide the night of Viola and Travis’ wedding. Alot of booze helps Drew and Court act out thier secret fantasies.
” And with that, I flip her over, part her legs, and finally give in to what we’ve both been seeking. I slide inside her, and my world tilts on its axis. The moment I hear her first moan, I nearly lose myself”
Most of the book is the two of them exploring and enjoying the fact that they are actually together. They take a trip to introduce Drew to Courtney’s family and it helps reinforce his feelings to her.
” Courtney is my best friend, my roommate, my partner in crime, and now she’s mine. I don’t know how this happened or how we got here, but I don’t want this to end.”
When a traumatic event happens to Drew on duty you just know something is about to go wrong. They escape on a spur of the moment trip to Vegas to get away. Lots of fun is had and lots of drinks are consumed. The book ends with Drew waking up to a not so pleasant surprise and we are left once again with a WTF cliffhanger!!!
I thank the Lord that I started this series after all the books were released becuase I am not sude i woukd have survived not knowing. WHY Kennedy Fox WHY ??? I shall now proceed to start reading This is Effortless Immediatly…
