Tough Luck Cowboy by A.J. Pine _ Book Review

Amazon | Goodreads

The only girl he ever wanted was the one he could never have.

What’s the saying, bad luck comes in threes? If so, Lily Green is due for something good. First, her divorce is finalized—on her birthday, no less. Then the first job she lands for her catering company turns out to be for her ex-husband’s wedding. To top it off, she’s stuck working the event with Luke Everett, the sexy-as-hell best man who’s never been able to stand her. When can a girl catch a break?

For years, Luke has kept his feelings for Lily safely hidden. Hitting on his best friend’s ex-wife would definitely break the cowboy code of honor. But ever since an injury sidelined his rodeo riding, the two of them keep getting thrown together. It’s only a matter of time until his true feelings come to light. When that happens, it will either be the biggest mistake of his life, or a sign that his luck is about to change.

[I received a physical copy for an honest review]

Tough Luck Cowboy is the second stand alone in A.J. Pine’s Crossroads Ranch series. A great second chance romance between a chef and a bull riding cowboy.

Luke lays eyes on Lily at a bar and feels an instant connection but when his friend Tucker shows an interest he steps back believing Tuck to be a better man for her. Now it three years later, and Lily and Tucker are divorced and his feelings never went away. Lily is suddenly seeing Luke in a new light and questioning her impressions of him. They have always butted heads and in her eyes they were something close enemies. When she discovers that a physical attraction to him that runs much deeper she has to decide to put her heart on the line and stay or run before she gets crushed.

I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers/ second chance romance. It had great sexual tension between Luke and Lily. I was anxiously awaiting that first kiss and from then on every time they were together the chemistry was HOT! She was a planner, and he inspired her to just let go and just be. Even though the book takes place within a three-week period it doesn’t feel rushed because for Luke he’s feelings began three years ago. I liked the fact that they each had their own dreams/goals they wanted to accomplish and in the end supported each other even if they didn’t necessarily agree.

On another note, if you have read the first book in the series, the side characters are as enjoyable as they were in the first. It was great getting to catch up with Ava & Jack and their Aunt Jenny was still a sweetheart. In the end I finished Tough Luck Cowboy with a smile on my face. I am really really looking forward to Walker’s story, I have a feeling it’s going to be the best yet.

For the first time, she was veering from the plan, it felt -right.

This woman was going to wreck him utterly and completely -and there wasn’t a god damn thing he could do but let it happen.
