“This is sports romance at its best! I was hooked from the first page!” Claire Contreras, New York Times bestselling author

The Ninth Inning, an all-new standalone sports romance from New York Times bestselling author J. Sterling, is available now!

Cole Anders is in his last season at Fullton State. If he doesn’t get drafted this year, he’ll be forced to hang up his cleats for good. It’s not something he’s ready to do.

To prove he’s serious about his final season, he’s given up girls. No more casual hookups, dates or one-night stands. But there’s one girl who has always refused to give up on him. One girl who has been there since the start of Freshman year. One girl he stupidly assumed would always be waiting for him when he got off the field, no matter how long it took.

Christina’s had enough of Cole pushing her aside for baseball. She’s grown tired of waiting for him to see what she’s known since they were freshmen… that they are good together. She’s finally moved on- for good this time.

Cole has other ideas, but she refuses to cave. It’s not her problem if he wants her now. Too little too late.

There comes a point in your life when you have to stop the incessant merry-go-round and just get off the ride, right? Try telling that to Cole.

JSterlingAbout J. Sterling

My goal is to write books that you can get lost in and stories that will leave you with a smile and a full heart. If you can forget about the real world while you’re reading and fall in love with my characters, then I’ve done my job. A lot of what I write has real life aspects in it, but that’s what makes the stories so relatable- the fact that they could happen to anyone… and have!

I live in California with my son, Blake. If you can’t find me sitting behind a computer screen, then there’s a good chance I’m sitting in the bleachers of a baseball stadium watching him play. I love traveling to new places, meeting my readers and spending time with the love of my life, my very own second chance romance, who inspires me daily.

I know you have a million books to choose from and I am humbled, grateful and thankful each time you choose to read one of mine, or tell someone else to read them. Thank you.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

The Ninth Inning is the first stand alone in J. Sterling’s The Boys of Baseball series. A New Adult college romance that romance readers will enjoy whether or not they are a sports fan.

Cole Anders’ life is baseball but it’s his last year in college and his last chance to be recruited, so he needs to focus. His idea is to cut tie with the one girl who has been a constant the past three years, Christina. When he realizes he made the wrong decision it might be too late. Christina is tired of being strung a long and knows she deserves better. When she gives him a second chance will he be able to prove she’s it for him and will their relationship survive the jealousy of their peers.

“I know you don’t believe me, and that’s okay. I’ll show you, Christina. I meant every word I said tonight.”

Cole was your average jock at first, but he quickly showed a really sweet side and felt things strongly. Christina feel a little flat for me. There wasn’t anything I necessarily disliked about her but the way she handled some situations annoyed me. When the two of them give their relationship a real chance, Cole tries his best to show her she’s worth it, and we get a really cute first date scene.

“I took it from her. My name, her lips. her breath – I too it all as my mouth covered hers, our tongue tangling, and I couldn’t hold back any longer.”

This New Adult tackles a little of everything that college kids can face. The ridiculous nasty way girls can act towards each other and among them the few who actually stand by their fellow females . How immature and vindictive boys and girls can be in college. How we hold the other sex to standards, simply some times the girl needs to fight for the boy. In most NA books it’s always the boy fighting for the relationship and this one points out that each side should equally fight.

Overall, The Ninth Inning was a sweet New Adult romance. It even included a friendly face from J. Sterlings’ The Perfect Game series and I will be keeping an eye out for the next release in the series.
