Behind the Plate by J Sterling _ Release Blitz & Review

The most anticipated J. Sterling release of the year is finally here! You’ve waited years to meet Jack Carter’s son and the wait is over! Strap in and enjoy the ride.

Chance Carter is the son of local baseball legend, Jack Carter. Now in his junior year at Fullton State, Chance is facing challenges he never saw coming. Failing a class will stop his draft season short, making him ineligible to play and pushing his goal of professional baseball even further away.

In steps Danika, a mouthy tutor from New York, who only wants to help him pass his class… NOT get in his pants. But try telling that to Chance.  He doesn’t trust girls and he definitely doesn’t trust his new tutor.  A lifetime growing up as a Carter taught him that.

But Danika has issues of her own.  After an incident that happened last year, she doesn’t trust athletes and wants nothing to do with them. And Chance is no exception.

The fireworks explode as the two try to deny the chemistry between them and family secrets are revealed. Chance doesn’t know how to give up on something he wants and he’s decided he wants Danika. There’s just one problem… she has a boyfriend she has no intention of breaking up with.

How can he have her when she belongs to someone else?

Meet J.

I’m a New York Times and USA Today best selling author of over 18 books! My goal is to write stories that you can get lost in, that will leave a smile on your face and a full heart. If you can forget about the real world while you’re reading and fall in love with my characters, then I’ve done my job. A lot of what I write has real life aspects in it, but that’s what makes the stories so relateable- the fact that they could happen to anyone… and have!

I live in California with my only son, Blake. If you can’t find me sitting behind a computer screen, then there’s a good chance I’m sitting in the bleachers of a baseball stadium watching him play. I love traveling to new places, meeting my readers and living life with the Real Jack Carter. ♡

I know you have a million books to choose from and I am humbled, grateful and thankful each time you choose to read one of mine, or tell someone else to read them. Thank you.

review

[I received a digital copy for an honest review]

Behind the Plate is the second book in J. Sterling’s The Boys of Baseball series. This can without a doubt be enjoyed as a stand alone but if you have read her other sports romances you’ll be in for some recognizable characters.

Chance Carter has one focus and that’s baseball. He works hard to stand on his own skill and not that of his baseball legend father. He doesn’t have time for women since it seems everyone wants him for his fame and not for who he is a person. In order to achieve his goal he needs to pass his college math class and the only way that going to happen is with a tutor. His tutor whether he likes it or not is Danika. He’s never felt feelings for a woman the way he does her with her snarky honest personality. Problem Danika has a steady boyfriend so Chance has to learn how to deal with only being friends. When her relationship status changes will two people with different career goals be able to make it work or will they call it quits before their hearts become to involved.

“I had no idea how to be normal around her. She made me question what normal even meant, She made me feel thins I didn’t want to feel.”

AHHH Chance Carter was fantastic !!! He’s officially my number one J. Sterling book boyfriend. He is such a cinnamon roll who loves his family and acknowledges is emotions. Danika fits the nickname Chance gives her, Spitefire. She is quick to speak her mind, and she doesn’t suppress her sarcasm. My favorite aspect of her character was that she thought through her actions before making rash decisions. Since she has a boyfriend when she meets Chance there is a bit of angst between the two of them but neither of them take the fact that she is in a relationship lightly. There’s no cheating in the book but the topic is addressed often because of the situation. They become friends, and she doesn’t jump right into a rlationship with Chance when she breaks it off with her boyfriend. When Chance and Danika finally take the relationship leap its honest and the intimacy between them is passionate.

“I want to kiss you, Danika. I want to make you forget that anyone else in the world exists, except you and me.”

Behind the Plate also has a great cast of supporting characters. Chance’s family is great. If you’ve read Sterling’s original baseball series you will know his parents, Jack and Cassie. They were exactly the kind of parents I pictured them being. Loving, caring, supportive and still completely in love with each other. His friend Mac was nice comedic relief, even though I have a feeling when his book comes out it’s going to hit me with the feels. Danika’s best friend Sunny was as sweet and kind as her name and I loved how her and Danika’s opposite personalities worked together.

Behind the Plate was a romance about love, communication, talking things out, support and trust. I very much enjoyed this addition to The Boys of Baseball series and look forward to the next one.
