About FORTUNATE SON:

Ry Archer and Bowe Keller are as different as night and day. But that doesn’t stop the childhood frenemies from reconnecting whenever one of them needs some help tackling any of life’s major puzzles, like figuring out why getting what you always thought you wanted isn’t living up to all the hype. They might constantly rub each other the wrong way (except for the times when they rub each other the really-really right way), but there is no denying they’ve always made one hell of a great team. They manage to balance each other out… when they aren’t driving each other crazy. For Ry, he thought he had the perfect girl, the one who was going to run headfirst into a methodically planned future. He was going to marry young and have the same kind of legendary, life-long romance his parents did… or so he believed. His girl was going to stand by his side as he chased his dream of being a professional football player all the way to the NFL. He was wrong. Now, Ry’s gotta figure out the difference between a bruised heart and a broken one, and the only person who can teach him the difference is Bowe. Bowe always felt like she had to run before she learned to walk to keep up with her father’s musical legacy. He’s her hero, and she wants nothing more than to make him proud. Bowe’s about to figure out that maybe she wasn’t meant to be in a rock and roll band and that it is possible she let her father’s success cloud her idea of what making music should be. Bowe needs to find her own path to fame, and there’s a good chance she wouldn’t be brave enough or bold enough to start over if Ry Archer hadn’t charmed his way back into her life when she least expected it. Some days they’re enemies. Other days they’re lovers. For a while, they were strangers. But now, it feels more like they might have always been soulmates. Eventually, Ry and Bowe realize that letting go of an old dream and creating a new one is much easier to do with the right person by your side.

Fortunate Son
by Jay Crownover brings back the world of Marked Men/Saints of Denver series with the next generation finding love and themselves along the way. While you could read this as a stand alone, it was definitely written for us fans of the original crew, and it was everything I hoped it would be.

“He was the only one who offered me an escape, and the only one I’d ever want to escape from.”

Ry Archer and Bowe Keller butted heads and pushed each other buttons growing up. As young teens that ignited into more, but Ry’s feelings scared him and caused him to pushed Bowe away. Two years later and Bowe is the one he turns to when he has his heart broken. Only to discover everything he thought he knew about himself was wrong, and Bowe has never stopped being the one he’s meant for. But their animosity and distrust in each other cannot overwhelm the soul-deep connection they’ve always shared. It won’t be easy, and he has wrongs to right, but anything worth having is worth fighting for. Will Bowe risk her heart again to the only man who ever held it, or will she meet him halfway for a relationship that has the potential to be everything.

“It was always his weaknesses that I found so attractive. They were so much harder to find than his strengths, and I felt like he only showed them to a select few. I had always been one of the lucky ones.”

Omg I can’t believe how much I absolutely loved Ry and all his hidden layers that Bowe brought out of him. Ry Archer appears to be a golden boy on the outside, but struggles endlessly to meet his parents expectations. He is only able to completely be himself with Bowe. She brings out not only the best parts of him but the worst. She challenges him while still finding ways to love the dark parts of him. He is Rule’s son through and through, building up so many emotions and struggling to express them.

“What sense did it make that she was the only person who could both rile me up and calm me down with no effort?”

Bowe Keller was a great match for Ry and a strong character on her own. After the fall-out with Ry when they were young, she closed herself off and focused on her music dreams. She is living in the shadow of her famous father and wants to exceed the high expectations she has set for herself. This is her sole focus until Ry comes barreling back into her life and throws everything off balance. She decides how she wants her and Ry’s relationship to proceed and refuses to be on the back burner or allow her career to be stifled. She is empowered by their physical connection and as a reader it steams off the page *fans self*.

“He kissed the breath out of me with intent, with single-minded focus and deliberation.”

Together, Ry and Bowe are explosive. They call each other out on their bullsh*t and help each other face their insecurities and fears. I was all in for the amount of honesty between them. I was also pleasantly surprised how mature they were for their age, there isn’t any petty unnecessary drama you sometimes find with the straight out of high school age group. Technically this is New Adult because of the leads ages but damn the sex scenes were hot as sin. Ry and Bowe’s chemistry makes it easy for them to show through intimacy how much they meant to each other before the words felt safe.

“But you’ve always been my safe haven.”

Returning to the world of Marked Men and Saints of Denver felt like coming home, a world where love conquers even the hardest obstacles. All the original couples are very present parents in their kids’ lives. They were always such a tight-knit group, and they continued that and their kids are just as close. I am more than looking forward to more of the next generations getting their stories in the future.
