SIDNEY CARVER HAD a big problem. She sat at the kitchen table in her underwear and T-shirt early Sunday morning, pondering her situation. It wasn’t like she’d planned on falling in love with her best friend, who also happened to be her roommate and her boss for the last three years. She swirled a waffle finger in the pool of chocolate syrup on her plate, staring absently, as if a solution might magically appear there. If only… Short of leaving Cape Cod and the dog rescue she adored, her father and friends, and the only man she’d ever loved, she saw no reasonable way out of the situation. It was too bad holding a gun to his head and forcing him to love her back would land her in jail, because that sounded easier than walking away. She had been attracted to Gunner since they’d first met, but her feelings had deepened over the years, and lately those feelings had gotten too big to deny. This was one of the few times in her life that she wished she had a mother to talk to. She’d been raised by an amazing father who had been only twenty when she was born, and he had taught her all about life, loyalty, and bravery. She could face a battlefield head-on, shoot a gun with expert precision, train dogs to save people’s lives, and nurture them back to health when they were injured. But winning her bestie’s heart was foreign territory, and she’d never been schooled in flirting or using her feminine wiles. She was more of a love me as I am or leave me girl, and she knew Gunner loved her as a friend just as she was, but way deep down, she also knew they could be so much more if he’d only let himself see her in that light. She heard a door open upstairs and froze, her pulse quickening as said problem’s heavy footsteps sounded above her, followed by the scampering of his rescue dogs, Granger, Belleau, and Opha Mae. The farmhouse stairs creaked beneath his weight, reminding her of the woman Sidney had heard leaving his room around two in the morning and causing a resurgence of the jealousy that had been driving her nuts lately. She needed to either figure out how to win him over without risking their friendship or get over him altogether, because watching a trail of women do the walk of shame from his bedroom wasn’t on her to-do list. Why did she have to fall for a player?

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]
Why is The Wicked: Dark Knights at Bayside Series so freaking good ?!?! I enjoy all the different Melissa Foster books/series I’ve read, but there’s just something about this one, whether it’s the Wicked brothers themselves or the quality of the women they fall for, that makes this series special.
“I have a feeling I’m never going to get enough of you, Sidney Carver.”
Sidney has fallen madly in love with her best friend, roommate and boss Dwayne “Gunner” Wicked. Unfortunately, Gunner is a player and has never shown interest in her as more than a friend. She decides she needs to try something drastic to get his attention, or finally move out and move on. Sidney pretends she has feelings for Gunner’s playboy cousin and asks Gunner to be her wingman to help in hopes of it opening his eyes to her. Her plan ultimately works, but will her dishonesty at the start and insecurities be more than just a speed bump in their relationship.
“I can’t even describe what it was like. Kissing her, holding her. It fucking changed everything. I changed who I am.”
Crazy, Wicked Love is a solid romance with likeable characters and a multiple lovable animals who continually steal your heart from the beginning. I have zero complaints, there is no over the top drawn out conflict, there’s no man whoring from our playboy Gunner once the story starts, and it’s a slow burn with a great pay-off. Sid and Gunner are both strong, loyal, dependable, caring characters who act like a happily married couple minus the bedroom intimacy. They are comfortable in each others person space playful with each other, seriously my mind is blown at how Gunner was able to keep his feelings for her locked down. Since the military, they have both dedicated their lives to taking care of animals in needs and have a surplus of furry friends living with them that will warm your heart. I loved watching Gunner acknowledge the feelings he had locked away because losing Sidney’s friendship would destroy him. When he can’t take it anymore the result is explosive, and he can’t keep his hands off Sid and 100% in it for keeps.
“He captured her mouth in slow, drugging kisses, imprisoning her in a web of arousal so thick and pleasurous, she wanted to live in it.”
Crazy, Wicked Love by Melissa Foster is a Friends to Lovers romance filled with sexual tension, a slow burn, flirty gym sessions, laughter, furry friends, beach dinners, photoshoots, off the charts steam, and family.
P.S. While Gunner & Sid’s romance didn’t bring tears to my eyes the ending at Tank & Leah’s wedding did, if you haven’t read their story, The Wicked Aftermath, I recommend you go do that😭
