The sequel is finally here! Shane and Ilya’s story, first seen in Heated Rivalry, continues in this long-awaited hockey romance from Rachel Reid.

“Everything you could want from this magnetic couple! A passionate, sexy, emotional sequel that grips your heart! Shane and Ilya forever!” —#1 NYT Bestseller Lauren Blakely, author of Hopelessly Bromantic

To the world they are rivals, but to each other they are everything.

Ten years.

That’s how long Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been seeing each other. How long they’ve been keeping their relationship a secret. From friends, from family…from the league. If Shane wants to stay at the top of his game, what he and Ilya share has to remain secret. He loves Ilya, but what if going public ruins everything?

Ilya is sick of secrets. Shane has gotten so good at hiding his feelings, sometimes Ilya questions if they even exist. The closeness, the intimacy, even the risk that would come with being open about their relationship…Ilya wants it all.

It’s time for them to decide what’s most important—hockey or love.

It’s time to make a call.

The Long Game by Rachel Reid the highly anticipated and long awaited sequel to the second book in the Game Changers series, Heated Rivalry.

Ten years, Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander have been keeping their relationship a secret, but Ilya is more than ready to put an end to their hiding. Ilya is drowning under the lies , the secrets, and the loneliness of hiding their relationship. Chaotic schedules, constant travel and lack of communication between the two puts a strain on their relationship, and in the end they will have to decide what’s most important to them.

Ilya laughed and pinned him down, hands wrapped around Shane’s wrists. As he gazed down at Shane, his expression shifted from teasing to something softer.
“I am so glad I met you.” Ilya said quietly.
Shane’s heart clenched. It was such a simple statement, but it was so open and honest,

I’m not going to go into much detail because personally, I would be devastated if someone spoiled this book for me. Ilya Rozanov continues to be one of my favorite characters. He is so sarcastic and quick that it hides how deeply he feels loneliness and struggles. His journey in this book is an emotional rollercoaster, and he deals with his mental health and we really get to know his character on a deeper level. Shane Hollander loves Ilya Rozanov so fiercely and needs him desperately that you can feel it coming off the pages. He’s just trying to balance his professional and person life and he goes through a shift that is painful to watch but so necessary if he is going to keep his relationship afloat.

How could Shane have doubted for a second how fiercely Ilya loved him?

The Long Game is packed with explosive intimate scenes, sweet domesticated moments, dealing with mental health, communication, and most of all so much love. There is honestly not one thing I would change about these two character’s journeys, I laughed, I cried [more than once] and I swooned! Rachel Reid went above and beyond all the expectations I had for this book and I am completely satisfied with the ending for Ilya and Shane.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

The Long Game by Rachel Reid is the sixth book in the Game Changes series. This book continues Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollanders’ story from Heated Rivalry (second in the series). Ilya and Shane have been together in one way or another for ten years and the pressure of their secrets have started to weigh heavily on the men. With their chaotic schedules, constant travel and pressure of playing professional hockey Shane and Ilya find comfort and affection whenever they can but is it enough? Shane fears their secret getting out and ruining the career he has worked so hard for while Ilya struggles to feel as though their relationship will ever become more. They love each other intensely but will either man choose their relationship over hockey?

Ilya Rozanov continues to be one of my favorite characters and I was so happy to get another book of his. He is so sarcastic and quick that it hides how deeply he feels loneliness and struggles. And oh man does he have some struggles in this book. Ilya realizes how much he has done to keep his side of the relationship with Shane going and how he doesn’t know how much more he can give. He opens up even more in this book to Shane, as well as his teammates, allowing us to see the layers. He brings comedic relief as well as some of the most emotional moments.

Shane Hollander loves Ilya Rozanov so fiercely and needs him desperately that you can feel it coming off the pages. Shane regularly finds himself trying to balance his intense physical need for Ilya and the balance of their more domestic life moments. He is so afraid to lose everything he’s worked so hard for in the NHL that he doesn’t see the toll the secrets are taking on Ilya. There is a shift for Shane that is painful to watch but so necessary if he is going to keep his relationship afloat.

Ilya spread his legs wider and leaned back more on the pillows behind him.
“Put your glasses on then.”
“So I can see better, or because you’re hot for my glasses.”
“Both”
Shane reached for his glasses case on the nightstand. He made a show of opening the case, pulling the glasses out, unfolding them, and putting them on. Like a nerdy reverse striptease.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster filled with steamy scenes. Ilya and Shane have never had it easy and finding out if there’s a happily ever after in their future was a bumpy ride. Ilya struggles with so much more than his future in the NHL and shows the importance of mental health awareness and self care. The found family of friends on the teams and throughout the NHL that support Shane and Ilya are so important and you see them providing a shoulder a lot throughout the story.

5 stars for Shane and Ilya showing that even the bitterest rivals can make the sweetest partners.
