I never in a million years thought I would want a guy who smells like a tree and probably hugs them on the daily, but alas, you’ve somehow snuck your sexy, khaki-covered ass into my life. It doesn’t help that we’re stuck living in this apartment together for God knows how long, but I can’t stop thinking about that kiss. I know I said it was one and done, and maybe that’s the smart thing to do since I’m not convinced of your emotional availability. Maybe I’m a masochist. Or, maybe I might kind of like you. I said what I said.

No regrets, Marcos~

Your ability to simultaneously compliment and insult me is probably one of my favorite things about you. I think it’s part of your charm. Does that make me a masochist as well? I definitely like to torture myself. The night I kissed you, I knew it had the potential to push you away, but I couldn’t stop myself from wanting you. I still can’t. You can flirt and bully me all you like. I’m not going anywhere. I’ve finally found my home, and it’s here. And just in case you need me to be more specific, I like you too.

Forever, con amor…

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Forever, Con Amor by A.M. Johnson is the fourth book in the For Him series. Chance Davenport is settling down in Atlanta after traveling the world helping build houses and spread hope. He enjoys his work at Pride House and the snarky volunteer, Marcos Basulto who takes great pleasure in mocking Chance anytime they’re in the same room. Marcos finds himself without somewhere to live after a fire in his building and inexplicably takes Chance up on the offer of his spare bedroom. The two men could be more different but find once they get over their preconceived notions of each other something special develops between them.

Chance has always put strangers’ well being ahead of his own. This has caused distance between him and his family as well as the breakdown of his past relationship with Ethan. He hopes that settling down at Pride House and starting a life in Atlanta will mend some of these relationships. He never expects to fall so hard for Marcos who does nothing but torment him for his fashion sense and his giving nature. Once they are in close proximity and the sniping becomes more flirtatious, Chance sees that there is so much sweetness beneath Marcos’ sarcastic hard shell. He knows once he’s experienced this true Marcos he needs him in whatever way he can get him.

He was honest and authentic and good. And instead of feeling unworthy, I felt safe. He was mine, and all the small things we did for each other added up into this big something, and I had no words to frame it but it filled my chest like air and I could breathe lighter because of him.

Marcos tries to keep everyone but those he loves and trusts the most at arms length. His past has shown him that anything can change at the drop of a hat and he must be ready to rely only on himself. Chance is a mystery to him because he can’t understand the older worldly man truly wanting him for the mess he sees himself as. With his future so uncertain he realizes that taking a chance on a real relationship means trusting Chance not to run if something goes wrong. Chance proves to be exactly who he needs in his corner along with his friends to help start to make his dreams come true.

Marcos was strong and beautiful, and although he’d never admit it, tender hearted. He cared deeply about the people in his life, about being present.

I was a little worried going into Forever, Con Amor because Marcos was so prickly and Chance had left Ethan but both won my heart over pretty quickly. Marcos ended up being prickly on the outside but so sweet when he opened up that all I wanted was for him to find happiness and success and Chance of course ended up being the biggest cinnamon roll just looking for someone to be there for him. Seeing all the For Him couples is always fun and I got my Anders fix big time as Chance and Ethan come face to face living in the same city and sharing a circle of friends. Johnson continues to include mixed media contact between the MCs which always brings a level of relatability and just works really well for me. I couldn’t be happier seeing the story unfold.

5 stars for Marcos and Chance building a forever on trust, love and humor.
