Reaching Reed is the first book in the collaboration series Behind the Camera between Cora Rose and Nicole Dykes. Camboy Carter is happy with his life and the success he’s found online. He accepts an invite from a completely unknown camboy, Reed, but never expects for the shy man to turn his world around. Reed needs money as quickly as possible, he finds Carter online and hopes that the man will accept his offer to film together. He never expects his experiences with Carter to be more than a job but Reed has so many secrets that getting close to the vibrant man is dangerous.
Carter is this shining ball of sass and confidence. He has been living his life according to his rules since leaving the comfortable nest of his mothers. He has his close group of friends who collaborate online and bowl together. Carter isn’t looking for a forever person but in walks Reed who changes everything. Reed is a mystery that Carter wants to solve and with each little detail shared Carter falls more and more. He loves being Reed’s firsts and exploring new experiences together.
There are no sassy comments for the cameras. No, it’s just him and me in this room. He’s going to wreck me. He already has.
Reed is hiding so many secrets that becoming a camboy is just another to add to his list. He is shocked when someone with Carter’s popularity and presence online is willing to do scenes with him. He is even more shocked when Carter turns out to be so much more than a flirty online presence. Reed can’t help but grow attached as Carter’s caring nature is turned to him and the two share more than just steamy scenes in the bedroom.
I’ve been obsessing about it, about him. But I also just wanted to spend time with him. To hold him, told him, to just be with him.
I have enjoyed all of Nicole Dykes MM novels so I was excited to see a collaboration involving her. Carter and Reed’s story was an excellent balance of steamy hot scenes as they did their work together and then so many precious little moments with snuggles, movies, bowling and meals. Carter’s crew of camboy best friends were everything and I cannot wait to get all their stories. With just the right balance of angst, steam and sweetness I would consider Dykes and Rose’s first book together a success!
4 stars for Carter and Reed’s chemistry turning a job into forever.
