Being invited to my cousin’s wedding really shouldn’t be such a big deal except, oh yeah, I haven’t seen my family for a decade.
My parents turned their backs on me and I’ve done everything since to become successful and show them what they lost. Only, it’s kinda hard to be a success when you’re a walking trainwreck.
So I’m going to fake it. Hire a guy with an online presence so impressive they’ll be desperate to welcome me back into the elitist fold, and roll into the wedding with the kind of confidence I’ve never felt a day in my life.
The plan’s a knockout.
Until my fake date cancels minutes before the ceremony.
One letter from my dearly departed grandfather, and suddenly I’m on a husband hunt.
He’s reworked his entire will so I’m set to inherit far more than I’m entitled to, and all because he’s asked me to use that money for “good”.
In order to get that inheritance, though, there’s one stipulation: marriage.
Even with his request, I’m tempted to stick to my original plan of getting as far from my wretched family as possible, and letting them fight it out.
But then I run into a tall drink of scattered mess outside of a wedding who’s in desperate need of a date, and the pieces click into place.
I help him, he helps me.
Marriage, money, then go our separate ways.
Now all I have to do is stop myself from actually falling for the guy.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]
The Husband Hoax is the first standalone in the Accidental Love series by Saxon James. A marriage of convenience filled with laughter and steam.
Christian was turned out from his family a decade ago for being gay and has to face them for the first time at his cousin’s wedding. His date for hire bails on him, and he thinks all hope is lost until he bumps into Émile, who offers to be his fake date. The two hit it off in and out of the bedroom, and Christian ends up offering to repay the favor by agreeing to a marriage of convenience for Émile to receive his inheritance. Émile’s family is old money and will do whatever it takes to stop the marriage, but when Christian and Émile develop real feelings, they will try their hardest to find a way to make their relationship work for real.
He shouldn’t feel like everything. He shouldn’t feel like the end. He shouldn’t feel like the thing I need to turn my body to static, all energy, A constant buzz of want.
This was simply adorable, and I loved every minute of it. I was immediately besotted with both Christian and Émile. Christian who is a nervous fumbling accident-prone sweetheart and Émile who is a kind soul who looks on the bright side of life with confidence and a laugh. I loved that from the start he jumps into supporting Christian even before he even knows him. He then becomes determined to help Christian see how worthy he is of love and that he deserves the world. Christian broke my heart with how unworthy he felt thanks to his biological family, but the found family he built around himself consisting of his best friends was everything. They platonically love each other unconditionally and I can’t wait to see more of them in future books.
His whole face lights up with my compliment. “What are you going to do about it?”
“Gaze at you in despair, torturously wasting away at all the man I get to look at and not touch.”
Back to Christian and Émile ! The two of them together are absolutely precious. Émile helps Christian see the humor in his mishaps and helps settle his nerves. Their relationship starts out hot and heavy and takes a small pause when they start their fake relationship arrangement. However, that doesn’t last long when they have such great chemistry and can’t take the sexual tension.
Strong lips , deep, sweeping tongue, one hand tangled messily in my hair as he holds me in place. I feel it, his need, from my scalp to the tips of my toes, because I’m desperate for him in all the same ways.
The Husband Hoax by Saxon James was a fake relationship trope win for me. With a marriage of convenience, found family at its finest, laughter, an emotional support cat, clumsiness, honesty, steam, game nights, taco hunts, and a happy ending. I seriously can’t wait for each of Christian’s roommates to get their own books!!

The Husband Hoax is the first book in Saxon James’ new Accidental Love series. Christian is a bit of a mess and although he embraces it, going to his cousin’s wedding and facing his estranged family is stressing him out. Enter a handsome stranger who steps in when Christian’s date bails, Emile. When their undeniable chemistry leads to a white hot night together the last thing Emile expects is to spill his own personal problems on Christian’s lap and for Christian to agree to a crazy plan to get Emile his inheritance. Both Christian and Emile know it’s going to be tough convincing everyone of their whirlwind love but they find it harder to keep things platonic.
Christian was the best kind of mess. He knows he is clumsy and word vomits all over the place all the time. He can’t imagine what a refined man like Emile wants with him but wants to enjoy their time together. His passion for acting is only secondary to caring about and loving his found family. Christian and Emile’s chemistry is instantaneous with witty banter and humor being infused with their intimate moments.
A laugh bubbles in my chest at his flailing and the fact that he was right. He’s a walking disaster. I think I’m in love.
Emile and his sister have been brought up by an unloving family and now he’s mourning the loss of his grandfather. To get his inheritance he knows he has to marry someone but he never expects to want to marry the man he steps in to help during a time of crisis. Christian’s chaos is exactly what Emile needs in his life. The two have such a hard time keeping their hands off each other because not only do they enjoy the intimate moments but the humor and kindness in between.
There’s something about the way his face is put together combined with his natural charisma that is making me so damn attracted to him with every moment that passes.
This book made me smile. I loved the humor and chaos that surrounded Christian and Emile. Christian’s found family is perfection and I want each of those lovely lost boys to find their HEA. Sometimes you want to read a relatively low angst rom com with loveable characters and this was just that. It was exactly what I needed.
5 stars for Christian and Emile falling for their own ruse.
